How We Research & Rate
Every brand we cover goes through the same research process. We verify claims, check certifications, analyze real buyer feedback, and rate based on what we find. Here's exactly how we do it.
Our Research Process
Step 1: Brand Research
We start by researching the brand itself. Who runs it, where they're based, how long they've been operating, and what claims they make about their products. We check company registrations, founding dates, and business history.
Step 2: Certification Verification
For Egyptian cotton claims, we check the Cotton Egypt Association's public certification database for the Pyramid Mark. For OEKO-TEX, we verify via their official lookup tool. For GOTS organic claims, we check the GOTS public database. If a brand claims certification but can't be verified, we flag this prominently.
Step 3: Product Specification Check
We verify stated specifications against what's actually documented. Thread count claims, GSM measurements, fiber origin statements, and manufacturing locations. We cross-reference what's on the label with what's verifiable.
Step 4: Real Buyer Feedback Analysis
We analyze reviews across Amazon, Trustpilot, Reddit, and other platforms. We look for patterns in complaints (pilling, shedding, fading, shrinkage) and in praise (softness, durability, value). Single reviews don't tell us much. Patterns across hundreds of reviews do.
Step 5: Price and Value Assessment
We compare pricing against similar products with similar certifications. A $180 sheet set with the Pyramid Mark is competing against other certified brands, not against $40 Amazon sheets. We rate value relative to what you're actually getting.
Step 6: Legitimacy Determination
Based on all research, we determine whether a brand's claims hold up. Brands get one of three legitimacy ratings: Legit (claims verified), Proceed with Caution (some claims unverified or questionable), or Avoid (clear evidence of misleading marketing).
Our Rating System
We rate every brand from 1 to 5 across four dimensions.
Quality (1 to 5)
Construction quality, material specs, and durability based on buyer feedback patterns. A 5 means consistently positive feedback on construction and longevity. A 1 means widespread quality complaints.
Value (1 to 5)
Quality delivered relative to price paid. An expensive product can still score 5 for value if the quality justifies it. A cheap product that falls apart scores low.
Authenticity (1 to 5)
Verified sourcing and honest labeling. 5 means Pyramid Mark certified with documented supply chain. 3 means claims Egyptian cotton but no third-party verification. 1 means clear evidence of misleading labels or false claims.
Comfort (1 to 5)
Based on buyer feedback patterns for softness, feel, temperature regulation, and satisfaction over time. We weight long-term feedback (after months of use) more heavily than first impressions.
